I LOVE TO ELEVATE MY WORK TO ANOTHER LEVEL

Recently, I took on a special commission from a client who wanted to give his wife a family portrait. He gave me carte blanche, requesting that the artwork reflect my unique style.

I took a deep dive into their family dynamics. It was wonderful to get to know them better, and the image began to take shape as I spoke with them. I noticed that each family member has their own unique eccentricities, and I wanted to bring those to life visually—as if they had turned their wardrobe upside down on a cozy Sunday afternoon.

Together with my stylist, Angela Kuperus, I created characters that reflected their authenticity, transforming them into the casual superheroes they truly are.

I envisioned an elevator as a portal to all of their upcoming adventures and stages in life as a family.

This artwork contains 12 scenes, and is constantly in motion, 24 hours a day, year-round. The elevator arrives and goes at random moments.

Building from scratch.

In my quest to find the perfect set for this extraordinary family, I realized that the ideal elevator didn’t exist. So, I decided to design and build it myself. With the help of my set builder, Daniel Dekker, we poured in blood, sweat, and tears until it matched my vision.

PUSH!

To introduce an interactive element to this artwork, I added an extra layer in the form of a button. With a simple press, you can control the portal whenever you like.

ALL HEROES GROW.

The concept is to create a living artwork that evolves with the family. At their request, it can be refreshed with new images, ensuring it remains a perfect fit as the work grows with them.
